I know the Massasoit Council is long gone (since 1972).
But what happenned to Camp Noquochoke?

A Google Search shows that Camp Noquochoke still exists in the Dartmouth, MA area. It appears to be a park now.

Do any of the camp sites / buildings remain?

Here's an aerial/satellite photo of the Camp Noquochoke area circa 1995.

I haven't been out in that area in a long time (I only visited Noquochoke while it was still in use once, when I was a Cub, and have only been to that spot 2 or 3 times since.) Noquochoke itself was sold off by Moby Dick Council in or about 1980, several years after the Massasoit and Cachalot Councils merged, in favor of keeping the larger Camp Cachalot. Not a popular decision amongst the former Massasoit people, of course. The last time I wandered out that way, which was easily 10 years ago now, there were still a few buildings standing.

A few years back (early 90's) I know there was some talk of homes being constructed in the area, but I don't think that that came to pass then. Given the construction boom around here for the last 6 or 8 years, though, a lot could have happened in the meantime.

I'm hoping to put information on Noquochoke up in the history section as that develops, but I've got a lot less of that information than I do for Cachalot. If people have more info, please post it!

Oh by the way Camp Noquochoke was located on Pine Hill Rd. in Westport, Ma. I dont anything about a Camp in Dartmouth.

Cachalot Council did own a camp in Dartmouth for some time off Rock O' Dundee Road, but that was never associated with the Fall River/Massasoit Councils. Might be a little confusion just because Noquochoke is on the Dartmouth side of the river, but is still in Westport.

We had a visit at this year's Winter Gathering and Memorabilia Expo from one of the families that now owns part of the old Noquochoke property (they happened to see information about our event in one of the local papers.) They were happy to see the small amount of material we've collected so far related to Noquochoke (we have some photos from 1921, which is the year the camp opened, a promo film from the '50s, and a few much more recent pictures of the Kiwanis cabin), and offered to let Manny Bagaço come out and take a few pictures.

They say that several buildings are still standing, and they've salvaged some of the signage. The swimming pool, which was a very late addition to the camp, is still there, although now it's occupants are of the sticky-tongued, fly-eating amphibian variety.

Other than a few lucky contributions, we haven't managed to get our hands on much related to Noquochoke's history just yet. Any little bit helps, so if you have access to old photos, pictures of memorabilia, or other historical information about Noquochoke, please drop our history committee a line at curator@cachalotalumni.org.

Added that one to the links page (and posted to our Facebook group) late last night.

Lucy Keefe, the landowner who is seeking the conservation restriction, is the same person who is responsible for the Alumni Association being in possession of the old Camp Noquochoke sign. Worth mentioning that we're still looking for people interested in helping to restore that sign...

I was a Boy Scout who went to Noquochoke in the summers back in the late 70s and remember it well.
It was sold to a friend of mine's father, Medeiros, and we used to have parties on the property when we were teenagers.
Shame what has happened to it...
