Camp History in Historic Fairhaven

Save the date: we’ll be meeting at the Fairhaven Senior Center on Saturday, February 25th for this year’s Winter Gathering. Doors will open at 11:00am, and we’ll start the event with a bit of time for you to socialize with other alumni.

Lunch will be available, and as we've done for the past few years, we’re encouraging folks to show off their cooking skills and bring a dish to share pot-luck style.

  • After lunch, we’ll hold a brief meeting to update you on what the Association has been up to over the last year, and give you some information on what’s coming up for us in 2017, including:
  • our 2017 project(s) for Cachalot
  • upcoming Association events including family camping, our Beaver volunteer work day, and Homecoming
  • nominations for the 2017 Wall of Fame ballot

We'll have Association merchandise available for sale, along with an archive of troop photos from various years of summer camp, some old Cachalot coffee mugs that were donated to the Association, and photo prints of camp.

Memories…

Our history committee will be showing a small portion of the over 6,500 historic videos, photos, and documents that we've added to our collections over the past decade-plus, along with some more recent creations. We'll go on a brief guided tour of some of the highlights of our collections, interspersing a few videos among the photos, we'll then give people the opportunity to check out photos from different eras of Cachalot (and its predecessors) by request.

Admission

Admission is free, as always, and open to members and non-members alike, so please spread the word to other alums you’re still in touch with who may not yet be members of our Association.

Share Your Memories

We are especially interested in any old photos and slides of Cachalot and Noquochoke that you might have. If you have pictures, feel free to bring them with you – we plan to have a computer scanning station set up and staffed by a member of our History committee to scan in prints and slides. Our ability to scan things in will be limited by the time we have available, so if you are able to scan things in yourself, feel free to bring them along in electronic form (CD- or DVD- recordable, USB or Firewire drive – contact curator@cachalotalumni.org if you have any questions about the formats we can cope with.) The higher the resolution, the better.

We look forward to seeing you (again)!
